There’s a chill in the air, you have the urge to snuggle up with your pet (and never leave the couch), and people everywhere are prepping for get-togethers with loved ones. That’s right: it’s the holiday season!

Have you heard about the global generosity movement, #GivingTuesday, that occurs each year on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving? This year it’s on Tuesday, December 3! According to the movement’s website:

GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to give.

Karma Cat + Zen Dog Rescue Society and #GivingTuesday

At Karma Cat + Zen Dog Rescue Society, the animals are our first priority! We devote ourselves day-in and day-out to caring for the animals. We groom them, socialize them, clean up after them, keep on top of their medical needs, and more. And guess what? We’re always looking for help, and #GivingTuesday is a great time to pitch in!

In the next section of this blog post we’ll highlight the top ways to help the animals out, but one thing is important to note: #GivingTuesday is not just about monetary donations. There are a ton of ways to help us for free, like volunteering, fostering, and more. Read on!

Top Ways to Help Us on #GivingTuesday

1. Paws for Celebration

The top way to help us is super fun … it’s a dinner party! Our top fundraiser every year is our Paws for Celebration benefit dinner which occurs every spring.

How is this is our top fundraiser? We get a ton of awesome silent auction items donated, as well as the support of generous sponsors. Plus, it’s just a super awesome time, with a full dinner, dancing, an award ceremony, raffle prizes, and more.

2. Donate (Any Size!)

If you’re looking for a fast way to help us out right now, consider a donation. And trust us, every dollar helps. We typically don’t make any profit on adoption fees, and it costs $55 to spay/neuter a community (feral) cat to prevent dozens of new kittens. This year we’ve taken in almost 20 kittens from colonies we are working on, and all those babies all need fixing/vaccinating/testing!

How to Donate

It’s super easy to donate – just visit our donation page and set up either a one-time donation or a monthly donation of your choice.

If you’re looking for a way to donate and show off your adorable fur baby, check out our Giving Grid. You donate an amount you’re comfortable with, and upload a photo of your pet to our grid for all to see!

3. Shop Our Amazon Wish List…

Another easy way to help us out without even leaving your home is by shopping our Amazon Wish List! We are always in need of supplies for our adoption facilities, and shopping our list makes it easy to directly send us specific items we need that are within your budget.

We have another Amazon-related way to help! Let’s be real: who doesn’t do a little holiday shopping on Amazon? Did you know you can shop normally via our special AmazonSmile link, and Amazon will make a donation directly to KCZD? It’s really that easy to support us!

Free Ways to Help

As we mentioned earlier, there are many ways to volunteer for free. We have various available volunteer positions, including socializing, cleaning, becoming an adoption counselor, and more. And the best part is you don’t need to know anything before you start; full training is provided, AND our schedules are super flexible.

Another fun way to contribute is by fostering, or as we sometimes call it, “testing out being a pet parent.” If you’ve been considering adopting, fostering is a great way to try out having a pet in your home for a few weeks. And again, we’ll fully train you and provide you with all food and supplies.
