At Karma Cat + Zen Dog Rescue Society, we are dedicated to operating as a transparent organization. The organization was founded in 2010 by Christie Arlotta, Michelle Arlotta, and Amy Iervolino, nee Vinopal.

Meredith Kendall – President
A resident of East Windsor, Meredith works at Edgebrook Animal Hospital as a Hospital Manager. Working in the field for 15 years, one of Meredith’s greatest accomplishments was being promoted to her current role, where her passion for animal care and rescue has driven her to succeed. She is the mom to 7 furbabies: 2 dogs (Xavier & Joy) & 5 cats (Mama Kat, Savannah, Magneto, Owen & Kismet), acknowledging that 1 dog and 4 cats are KCZD alum. When Meredith is away from work, she enjoys hiking with her dogs and family (husband Carlos, son Justin & daughter Brianna), coloring and cooking.
Fun Fact: Meredith has hyper-flexive joints.
Tom Daily – Vice President
Residing in Old Bridge, Tom has spent 44 years as a CPA where he is currently a Manager at a CPA firm in NYC. Every year in January, Tom gives a tax seminar to his entire firm; although it’s nerve wracking, when he’s done, he feels like he has accomplished something that he is very proud of. Tom is very passionate about doing an excellent job and animal rights, which is one reason why he accepted the position as Vice President. In Tom’s down time, he enjoys playing guitar and singing with his wife, volunteering at church and playing golf. Tom also has 2 sons and one kittie, Lillybelle.
Fun Fact: Tom’s family has had 4 cats since he was 6 years old. The first one lived to 18, the second to almost 20, the third to 16.5 and Lillybelle is 5.
Janie Carroll – Past President
A native of Milltown, Janie is the owner of the Rabbit’s Den Tattoo Parlor, also located in Milltown, where she has been the proud owner for the past 7 years and tattoo artist for 15 years. Owning a business and having that business win awards and change the way people view tattoo studios and what they represent has been one of Janie’s biggest accomplishments. Artwork is Janie’s passion both professionally and personally. When she is not running her business, Janie loves photography, camping/hiking, traveling and spending time with her husband Tom, 2 kids Kiernan and Caroline and her “furbabies” – Clinton her goofy mutt, Peebs and Frankahlin kitties, Acorn the hamster and a tank full of fishies including a couple of betas here and there.
Fun Fact: Janie worked at a florist shop while going through college.
Elaine “Lainie” Polites – Secretary
A native of Milltown, Lainie works as a Center Operations Director for Concentra where she has been for 19 years. Patient care is something that Lainie is very passionate about, and her hard work has paid off for she has led her center to receive the title of “Center of Excellence” for 2 years in a row. When Lainie is not taking care of patients, she spends her time tap dancing, doing yoga/Pilates (which she is also passionate about) and creating jewelry. Lainie has one son, 2 dogs and 3 cats.
Fun Fact: Lainie has been tap dancing for 16 years at Middlesex Academy of Dance in Milltown.
Ana Archbold – Treasurer
A resident of New Brunswick, Ana works in Business Management for the Consumer Products department at Johnson & Johnson working in the field for 20 years. One of Ana’s greatest accomplishments was developing and executing the largest global launch for Johnson & Johnson in 2018. Ana enjoys animals, English Premiere League Football (specifically the Chelsea Football Club), film & TV, eating & discovering delicious food. She also has 1 cat named Didier.
Fun fact: Ana met her husband Scott online; he was her first match! After meeting, they realized they both went to the same university at the same time, and their majors were in the same building. It was fate from the beginning!
Residing in South River, Nanette has been working as a Human Resources Business Partner for 7 years, and as a Fitness Instructor for 14 years. Nanette is passionate about helping others succeed, nothing gives her more satisfaction than to see someone (including animals!) promoting or accomplishing something they never thought they could. During her down time, Nanette enjoys spending time with her husband John kayaking, fishing or riding their Harley’s. She also enjoys crafting, canning, but most of all loves cuddling up with her deaf pittie Titus.
Fun Fact: the only bone she ever broke was her nose.
Mark Schmidt – Member
Currently residing in North Brunswick, Mark has been working as a Real Estate Agent with Re/Max Country since 2002. Working with people is part of his passion; Mark loves serving and helping others, letting them know how important they are is part of his motivation every day. One of his greatest accomplishments was fighting and winning against a town that was making his clients’ home sale impossible. Thru his hard work and determination, he was able to sell that home.. When Mark is not motivating others or selling homes, he enjoys making videos, reading, volunteering and building relationships with everyone he meets. Mark also enjoys spending time with his wife, two daughters and his cockapoo named Daphne.
Fun fact: Mark hosts a weekly show on You Tube called “Monday Mornings with Mark!”.
Melissa Giusti – Member
Melissa lives in Edison with her husband Brendan and 2 cats – Wilson and Wendy. She currently works in Talent Acquisition which she has been doing for the past 5 years and has a passion for helping people with their early career development. Melissa received a Global Employee Recognition from her client for the support she provided to their Intern/Co-op Program. When Melissa is not developing careers, she also actively volunteers in Environmental/Sustainability Advocacies, LGBTQ+ Rights and STEM Education. Melissa loves animals and live music.
Fun fact: Melissa has been to over 80 Phish concerts.
